Dance Teacher Portrait
Needing an inviting photo quickly for their teacher profile, Rebecca reached out to me to get something done on short notice and without any preparation. Manipulating existing lighting and utilizing pops of color in their place of work, I was able to get them a result that they loved!
Devin at a Flower Farm
Leaning into a person's hobbies and aesthetics is critical to me to taking a good portrait. For me, a true portrait captures not just the image of a person but as much of their essence as possible. Here, Devin, my partner, and I were walking through a flower farm in Central Jersey and I took the opportunity to take their portrait, highlighting their spirit as well as their aesthetic strong suits.
Black and White
When walking around bustling areas, I am sometimes grabbed by the image of someone who would look great in a photo. This was one such occasion where, at a show at a bar, the audio technician looked very picturesque. After talking to him for some time, I asked if I could take his portrait on the spot. With the aid of a phone flashlight key light and some help from some very pleasant and enthusiastic staff at the bar, I got his portrait in black and white.
At a Premiere
I love to utilize whatever dynamic and strange lighting there is a setting to my advantage whenever I'm looking to make a portrait pop. Here, the lighting at this movie premiere of a friend's gave this man a rather unique look. With just a little post-processing, I exaggerated the colors to exactly where I wanted them.
Extreme Close Up
Getting the best out of people who are normally camera shy can be quite the challenge, but I've found that with some guidance, there is always a way to get wonderful photos. Here, I had asked for a photo from an acquaintance of mine. Though willing, they were a little shy and didn't know quite exactly how to pose or look. Talking them through it, I was able to get the resulting shot. I've always found that easing people into their portraits is the best way to get their photos
On the Boardwalk
Walking around with a camera on the Jersey Shore can be quite the invitation to others to ask for their photos to be taken. This was one such occasion where a young man and his friends stopped me on a photography expedition down Asbury Park's boardwalk to ask for some quick photos. I was more than happy to oblige!
