A trans body should not be controversial yet here we are. I struggle when posting these kinds of photos simply because I am a people-pleaser and don’t want anyone to see anything that might alter their opinion of me.
I had a hard time publishing a photo of a protester on the side of the road bashing Trump and Putin, I have a hard time publishing these, and I’ll continue to do so probably ad infinitum.
It is an active effort to keep doing this but I find that these photos tend to be my favorite. I hope to change my internal streak of photos that look nice but mean nothing.
This is Devin, a former partner and now one of my closest friends. Their continued presence in my life has been a stabilizing force and also a beacon for others who find themselves questioning their own body and self. If ever “friend to all” were to apply to any one single person, it would be him. I took these photos one day wanting to highlight some of the things I find myself captured by: their strength, their confidence and their scars.
